We are pleased to announce Shannon Carey, PA-C, Hospitalist, has joined the Mount Nittany Medical Center.

“As a Pennsylvania native, I’m excited to return home after finishing my education in Virginia,” said Shannon. “I grew up knowing a strong sense of community and the State College area definitely provides that.”

Shannon’s licenses and certifications include the Pennsylvania Physician Assistant License, Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), American Heart Association, and Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR + AED, American Heart Association.

“I try my best to develop a genuine connection with each patient,” said Shannon. “I hope taking the extra time to get to know them beyond their diagnosis and explaining the choices we are making with them regarding their health allows them to feel informed and confident.”

Shannon received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, with a minor in biology from The Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Mary Baldwin University. She is a member of American Academy of Physician Assistants.

“I’m motivated every day as a healthcare provider by my colleagues who go above and beyond to provide the best care to their patients while also assisting each other throughout the day,” said Shannon. “This camaraderie is essential to our success.”

Shannon’s clinical experience includes emergency medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and OB/GYN, among others. She has also worked as a tutor, a patient care technician, and an undergraduate teaching assistant.

Outside of work, Shannon enjoys spending time with friends and family. She also looks forward to traveling as much as she can over the next few years.
