Creating an average of more than 1,300 meals a day takes a full team effort.
A team of about 60 staff members, working both in the kitchen and on the serving line, is led by a professional chef to ensure the best possible meals for our patients.
Executive Chef Gary Glenn, Department Director
A man who's been working in the kitchen since his high school years, Executive Chef Gary Glenn brings 20 years of experience in cooking for the healthcare industry to Mount Nittany Medical Center, where he's been since 2003. He first fell in love with cooking in the eighth grade because his neighbor owned a restaurant, and he's been cooking ever since.
Chef Glenn is a certified executive chef with the American Culinary Federation and is certified with the Dietary Managers Association. He is also a member of the World Association of Chefs Society and the National Restaurant Association. He has served as a board member for the State College Area Food Bank and Sun Area Technical School food services. He hopes to continue his education by becoming a certified master chef—a distinction held by fewer than 100 chefs nationally.
A first place winner in the Hershey Professional Chocolate Centerpiece Competition, Chef Glenn brings unique artistic skills to Mount Nittany Medical Center. In addition to chocolate art, Chef Glenn is an award-winning ice carver with over a decade of team carving experience.
Chef Glenn empowers his kitchen team by encouraging them to try out new recipes of their own creation to complement daily specials. About 15 employees work in the kitchen, creating delicious meals from a combination of experience and experimentation. An additional 20 people serve meals to guests, working hard to ensure every person's experience with the culinary team is not just adequate but outstanding.
