To diagnose your shoulder condition, we start with a thorough history of your symptoms and health and conduct an expert clinical exam. Special x-rays are often taken during your visit. In addition, a diagnostic ultrasound study can be performed in the office. Depending on what your x-rays show, further imaging, such as a CT scan or MRI may be required.
Our experienced orthopedic shoulder surgeons and sports medicine physician use minimally invasive and conventional surgical procedures along with nonsurgical treatments. Our team includes athletic trainers, physical therapists, pain management specialists, and non-operative sports medicine physicians who work together to provide comprehensive care. We are here from the start of the issue until you can seamlessly get back into your daily routine.
Nonsurgical treatments may involve rest, altering your activities, and exercise programs. Athletic trainers and physical therapists have designed special home exercises that can be demonstrated in clinic, and formal physical therapy may be prescribed to help you improve shoulder strength and flexibility. Medications may also be prescribed. A full complement of injection therapy, including ultrasound-guided injections of anti-inflammatories and orthobiologics can be integrated into non-operative care.
For certain types of shoulder problems, such as recurring dislocations, rotator cuff tears, and arthritis, surgery may be recommended.
