Michael J. Murray, MD

Michael Murray, M.D., is a dedicated family medicine physician at Mount Nittany Health, serving patients of all ages. His journey to becoming a physician began with a personal experience. As a child with asthma, he was inspired by the remarkable care of an emergency physician who helped him breathe easier and feel better. This early experience motivated him to pursue a career in medicine, with the hope of having a similar effect on others.

After years of practice, Dr. Murray has developed a broad range of interests within family medicine. He is particularly passionate about musculoskeletal cases, sports medicine, geriatric medicine and dermatology. His expertise extends to performing procedures such as musculoskeletal injections and skin biopsies, which he offers conveniently in his office.

Dr. Murray’s approach to care is rooted in listening to his patients. He believes that taking the time to truly understand their concerns is key to accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning. He strives to answer all questions and ensure that every patient leaves their appointment feeling informed and confident in their care plan.

A strong advocate for healthy living, Dr. Murray frequently advises his patients to prioritize regular exercise, maintain a healthy weight and follow a Mediterranean diet, which emphasizes healthy fats; limits red meat; and incorporates nutrient-rich foods like olive oil, nuts and dates. He encourages a balanced routine that includes aerobic exercise five times a week and strength training three times weekly.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Dr. Murray and his wife chose to move to the Centre Region to be closer to family. Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Murray enjoys ballroom dancing, exercising, singing and playing guitar. He also believes in the importance of a balanced life, emphasizing the connection between a healthy body, mind and spiritual faith.
