Every day at Mount Nittany Health, nursing professionals go above and beyond for their patients, colleagues and the community. Their extra effort impacts the lives of the people they care for, including some of the most vulnerable in the Centre region. Jenn Traxler, RN, Emergency Department, Mount Nittany Medical Center, is a shining example of a Mount Nittany Health team member who elicits positive change while continuously providing extraordinary care.

Driven by her strong faith and commitment to serving others, Traxler was moved to help patients who were discharged from Mount Nittany Medical Center without proper clothing due to traumatic events. For example, when sexual assault exams are performed, survivors are often required to relinquish their clothing as evidence. In addition, trauma patients, fall patients and others need to be cut out of their clothing in order to provide necessary medical treatment. Since their original clothing can no longer be worn, these individuals are provided with disposable paper scrubs as an apparel replacement.

It was Traxler’s mission to provide these patients with a better option than disposable scrubs. So earlier this year, Jenn and her mother started a clothing initiative to provide apparel to patients at Mount Nittany Medical Center who experienced some of life’s most traumatic events. She said she was inspired to donate clothing to this important cause because “…clothing is a huge part of feeling safe and secure. We want these individuals, who have experienced unimaginable trauma, to feel safe when they leave our care at Mount Nittany Medical Center. This is our way of letting them know that someone cares about them.”

Traxler and her mother made their first donation of t-shirts, sweatpants, sweatshirts, undergarments and shoes late last spring. Traxler explained the importance of having a variety of options that will fit people of different ages, body types and genders. She noted that it is also important to select comfortable, practical and weather appropriate clothing.

Individuals who wish to donate to this wonderful program are encouraged to contact Jenn directly at jtraxler@mountnittany.org. The current list of needs includes the following new or very gently used clothing:

  • Sweatpants
  • Sweatshirts
  • T-shirts
  • New sports bras
  • New underwear (men’s, women’s and youth)
  • Socks
  • Open toe shoes

Traxler’s compassion and dedication to going above and beyond for those who need it most represent the core values of Mount Nittany Health. Traxler joined Mount Nittany Health in 2008.
