By Kathleen Rhine, President and CEO, Mount Nittany Health
State College, Pa. - A few years before Mount Nittany Health’s first hospital opened its doors in 1902, President Grover Cleveland signed
a law to annually celebrate the social and economic achievements of American workers. With the stroke of his pen, Labor Day was born! Since then, the first Monday in September has been designated as a day to recognize the contributions of our nation’s
workforce.
Labor Day is also an ideal time to salute Mount Nittany Health’s 2,400+ team members, who are on the frontlines of caring for 400,000 residents across six counties. Their compassion, commitment, and many contributions to
the health and well-being of our community are immeasurable. The pride and purpose each one of our team members brings to work is what makes our region a top choice for work and play, as well as an important factor in attracting people and businesses
to our area.

Notably, these many efforts are greatly appreciated by our community who recently shared What Mount Nittany Health Means to the Community in a special video. In addition, each
week we share some of the wonderful comments that come to us via handwritten notes, heartfelt emails, and enthusiastic posts on social media with our staff. Thank you, thank you, thank you to our healthcare team for being there to serve those in need
all day, every day, including Labor Day.
Happy Labor Day, and please join me in saluting the Mount Nittany Health team for all they do for our patients, our team, and our region.
