The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) recognizes November 6 – 12, 2022, as National Radiologic Technology Week. During this special week, Mount Nittany Health would like to celebrate the vital work of the medical imaging and radiation therapy professionals in our healthcare system.
Each year, this special week-long celebration takes place during the week of November 8th to commemorate the discovery of the x-ray by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen on November 8, 1895. The theme for this year’s National Radiologic Technology Week is “Aiming to Heal.”
Larry Garman Jr. RT (R) (CT) ARRT, Imaging Services Manager, Mount Nittany Medical Center, expresses his gratitude for the exceptional radiologic and imaging services team at Mount Nittany Health: “I am so proud of all our staff and services at Mount Nittany Health and consider it a privilege to work with such a quality program and staff. Let’s take time to celebrate, enjoy all our accomplishments and recognize each other during the week. Great job everyone!”
Radiologic technologists are responsible for radiation safety and protection, equipment protocols, examination techniques and more. Each day, our team of radiologic technologists act as frontline caregivers who operate our x-ray machines, CT scanners and MRI machines. They are credentialed, skilled professionals who offer excellent clinical care by providing about 160,000 exams annually at Mount Nittany Medical Center and outpatient locations. Consider the scope of their work in the following areas: Radiology (66,003), CT (38,851), MRI (9,654), Ultrasound (17,078) and Breast Care Center (20,491).
The Imaging Services Department is highly regulated and have DOH, DEP, Joint Commission Accreditations and inspections, as well as ACR accreditations in CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine and Mammography through the American College of Radiology. This ensures Mount Nittany meets the stringent guidelines for quality. Additionally, mammography also has strict FDA/MQSA requirements that are followed within the healthcare system. All team members have their certifications in the modalities they work in, with many holding multiple certifications. In additional to radiologic technologists and radiologists, this dedicated team also includes clerical staff, RNs, and patient transporters.
Please join us in applauding our radiologic and imaging services team. This week and every week, we are so grateful for all you do. Thank you for being an important part of our organization and for contributing to our mission of “Healthier people, stronger community.”
