While continuing to respond to the challenges of COVID-19, Mount Nittany Health is announcing plans to strengthen its commitment to outstanding care by making significant new investments at Mount Nittany Medical Center and in its outpatient locations.
Beginning this fall, the health system will start the planning process for construction of a new bed tower on the hospital campus. This state-of-the-art facility would feature all private patient rooms, combined with a variety of other community, clinical and support service enhancements. The planning process is expected to extend through early 2022.
In addition, the organization will begin a complete renovation of the imaging department at the Medical Center to provide a newly designed diagnostic pavilion on the hospital’s main floor. The renovation will happen in phases over the next two years, resulting in enhanced patient experience, improved staff environment, and the ability to accommodate the latest diagnostic technology.
In the coming months, Mount Nittany Health also will create a new inpatient dialysis unit providing a greatly enhanced patient and staff environment.
In addition to the newly announced projects, the health system currently is well underway with construction of an expanded women & children’s services unit and a new laboratory at the Medical Center. Both projects are scheduled for completion in spring 2022. The expanded women & children’s services unit will provide numerous patient, family and staff enhancements. The new laboratory will combine the latest technology with an upgraded and efficient design.
In addition to the investments at the Medical Center, the health system continues to grow its outpatient services. Planning is underway for a number of renovation projects in Mount Nittany Physician Group practices, including the renovation and expansion of Physician Group regional outreach locations and planning for a new State College outpatient facility.

Over the past decade, Mount Nittany Health has continually invested in facilities that improve healthcare quality and access, including the Lance and Ellen Shaner Cancer Pavilion, new operating suites, expanded emergency department, advanced cardiovascular services pavilion and outpatient facilities in Mifflin County, Philipsburg and Penns Valley. The health system also provides financial and operational support for other community organizations that provide crucial services and care, including Centre Volunteers in Medicine and the Children’s Advocacy Center of Centre County.
