Mental Health Awareness Month Events

Mount Nittany Health is proud to announce the following events in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.

April 21

Suicide Awareness for Veterans and their families, Mount Nittany Medical Center
The Veterans Administration and Mount Nittany Health are hosting a special education session on Suicide Awareness for Veterans and their Families. This event will be held in Mount Nittany Medical Center’s Galen and Nancy Dreibelbis Auditorium, from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. Registration is required. To register, please email Melinda.Shea@va.gov.

April 30

Centre County Out of the Darkness Walk, Sydney Friedman Park
The 2017 Centre County Out of the Darkness Walk will be held on Sunday, April 30. Sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, registration begins at 11:00 am and the walk begins at 1:30 pm. For more information, contact Shanon Quick at shanon.quick@uhsinc.com or 814.404.5075.

Art exhibit, Mount Nittany Medical Center
The Mount Nittany Medical Center art gallery will feature a photography display by William Snyder III, highlighting the importance of mental health. 

Stompers Project, Schlow Centre Region Library
Several Stompers will be on display at Schlow Centre Region Library during May. To learn more about the Stompers Project, click here.

Mokita™Trunk Show, downtown State College
Jana Marie Foundation, Skills of Central PA, and Beck Psychotherapy team up to bring the Mokita Trunk Show to the Centre County community. Elephant cutouts, painted by artists from our community, will be placed in store front windows throughout downtown State College.

Mokita™Photography, Webster’s Bookstore Café
We all have a store. We all have an elephant. This moving photography exhibit will acknowledge elephants that exist in our community and the healthy way members cope.

May 3

Candlelight Vigil, Penn Stater Hotel and Conference Center
Beginning at 5:00 pm, the 12th annual candle light vigil, sponsored by Skills of Central PA, is intended to eliminate the stigma associated with mental health and create an atmosphere of acceptable and understanding for those diagnosed with a mental illness. Youth Mental Health First Aid, Centre Lifelink

First Friday, downtown State College
First Friday will be held Friday, May 5, from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Join Jana Marie Foundation, Skills of Central PA, and Beck Psychotherapy, for several events highlighting the importance of mental health.

Centre County Suicide Prevention Task Force, Centre County Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities/Early Intervention and Drug & Alcohol Offices
Open to all individuals wishing to work together to reduce suicide in Centre County. The meeting is held at the Centre County Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities/Early Intervention and Drug & Alcohol Offices, 3500 E. College Ave, Suite 1200, State College, at 3:00 pm.
