How kids can spring into sports safely

  • Wear a well-fitting helmet as necessary while engaging in sports to protect yourself from a head injury. Know the symptoms of a head injury so your child can get the proper care:
    • Loss of consciousness, being dazed, confused or disoriented
    • Head and neck pain
    • Nausea or vomiting
    • Irritability
    • Lack of coordination
    • Memory or concentration problems
    • Slurred speech
  • Seek medical care if your child experiences these symptoms after an injury to the head. Even if he or she does not have any symptoms, closely watch for any problems over the next 24 hours.
