Mount Nittany Health is proud to announce Sara Murarik, RN, women & children’s services, Mount Nittany Medical Center, as the DAISY Award winner for August 2019.
Created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away from complications of an autoimmune disease in 1999, the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award is an international program designed to recognize the exceptional care of our nurses. As a system-wide program, nurses throughout Mount Nittany Health have the opportunity to be recognized with the DAISY award.
Sara’s nomination reads, “Although this nomination is late, this nurse deserves the recognition for going above and beyond with patient care. Like most first-time moms, I was scared to death walking into the labor and delivery unit. Being that I am a nurse, I had an idea of what to expect during childbirth from my college classes, but that was over eight years ago and I was still nervous. How long would labor last? What were my options for pain management? Would everything be alright?
I have worked with many nurses at several different hospitals, but Sara is a nurse that I will always remember. She explained processes as we went along and answered any questions, as silly as them seemed to me, without hesitation. She interacted with doctors, nurses and ancillary staff professionally. When the baby's heart rate both dropped and elevated to unsafe numbers, she was able to return it to baseline calmly and efficiently. She encouraged me when it was time to push, like my own personal cheerleader. She kept my parents that came from out of town informed of the progress. Although she wasn't there for the actual birth, she took the time to come and check on both me and my baby the following day.
Sara's outgoing personality and compassion for helping others make her a remarkable nurse. The labor and delivery unit at this hospital is very lucky to have her!”
Please join us in congratulating Sara on receiving this well-deserved honor!
