Vascular surgery refers to medical procedures concerning the veins and the circulatory system.
Vascular and endovascular surgery is provided at Mount Nittany Medical Center through our new special procedures room.
This mobility- and life-saving treatment is a combination of medical, traditional surgical and endovascular (minimally invasive) procedures that treat diseases and conditions of the arteries and veins.
Vascular surgeons who are a part of Mount Nittany Health work closely with cardiologists, wound care physicians and other specialists to provide treatments for those conditions that affect the circulation of blood.

Understanding Veins
Anatomy of a Vein Veins have cuplike flaps called valves spaced along their inside walls. Valves open upward, so blood can move up the vein. Valves close to keep blood from falling back down the vein. A contracting muscle squeezes blood through the valve up the vein. A relaxing muscle closes the valve, holding the blood in place.
