Mother/Baby Unit

Couplet Care

Couplet care is provided by registered nurses. Couplet care is care for the mother and newborn by the same nurse. The couplet nurse assists with breastfeeding, newborn care, and postpartum care. Couplet care encourages rooming-in, which means that the newborn stays in the room with you to promote bonding.

Upon arrival to your postpartum room, you are shown where things are in your room and how to use the call bell system, television, and electronic beds.

Doctors visit patients in the morning and as needed throughout their stay.

Nutrition and Culinary Services

During your stay, the Nutrition and Culinary Team is dedicated to providing restaurant quality entrees along with excellent customer service. Bedside meal service is offered at approximately at 8:00 am (breakfast), noon (lunch) and 5:00 pm (dinner) for the new mother. Guest trays are also available at any meal period upon request for an additional cost.

In celebration of your new addition, the Nutrition and Culinary Team invites you and a guest to enjoy a complimentary meal at lunch or dinner during your stay at Mount Nittany Medical Center. This gourmet meal is served with tablecloth service and has gourmet menu options and sparkling cider for a toast. We look forward to meeting you soon, and enjoy our cuisine.
