Education & Support
In many cases, education can be the key to managing—or even preventing—diabetes, its progression and related complications. Mount Nittany Health offers a number of programs to teach patients, caregivers and clinicians how to best deal with diabetes.
To find out about our schedule of upcoming classes and programs, for diabetes and a wide range of other health topics, see our events calendar.
Group classes, taught by certified diabetes educators of our Diabetes Network, cover all aspects of learning to manage diabetes, including: what diabetes is, how to monitor blood glucose, how to use blood glucose results to make changes in treatment, healthy eating and weight loss strategies, and understanding medications.
Off-site sessions are also available for people who live in rural settings and may not be able to travel to State College for diabetes programs.
While many insurance companies will provide partial or full coverage of the series's cost with a physician's referral, participants are encouraged to contact us for more information about the program's fee. Check our events calendar for details
Diabetes Support Group
Mount Nittany Health offers a monthly Diabetes Support Group. Led by a certified diabetes educator from our Diabetes Network, topics are guided by attendee needs and concerns, and the meetings often feature guest speakers. Friends and family members are also encouraged to attend. The schedule, along with information on guest speakers, is available on our events calendar.
Diabetes Online Patient Library
Mount Nittany Health’s Diabetes Online Patient Library offers multimedia tools to help you or a loved one manage diabetes.
Community Partnerships & Special Events
Mount Nittany Health’s Diabetes Network partners with various community organizations in Centre County and beyond as part of the Network’s mission to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes, promote early diagnoses and improve diabetes management and outcomes in the region. Our popular World Diabetes Day event, held once a year, offers free diabetes education to our community members.
