Media Guidelines

Patient Information

To protect our patients, Mount Nittany Medical Center adheres to a policy that limits information released to media and to the public. Medical Center Staff will provide what information is allowable and available to the news media. No information will be provided on mental health patients or on those individuals who have requested to remain anonymous.

Patient Condition

Reporters calling to check on the condition of a patient should call 814.231.7000 and ask for the Clinical Coordinator or the Emergency Department Manager. You must provide a full name to obtain the condition report.

Conditions will be reported as Undetermined, Good, Fair, Serious or Critical. The following are the definitions of these conditions:

UndeterminedPatient awaiting physician and assessment.
GoodVital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious and comfortable. Indicators are excellent.
FairVital signs are stable and within normal limits. Patient is conscious, but may be uncomfortable. Indicators are favorable.
SeriousVital signs may be unstable and not within normal limits. Patient is acutely ill. Indicators are questionable.
CriticalVital signs are unstable and not within normal limits. Patient may be unconscious. Indicators are unfavorable.
