Where Should I Go If I'm Sick?
intro
Students are encouraged to use University Health Services (UHS) for preventative and routine care. Click here for a listing of their services and hours.
While UHS should be a student's first contact if possible, our Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, every day, should you need us. Parents can be assured that the services and specialty care we provide are beyond what is usually found in a rural community hospital. Feel free to explore the rest of our website for further descriptions of our services and medical staff.
PSU student volunteers and peer counselors offer support and empathy to students, assisting them with telephone calls and transportation to help limit the stress felt.
While we encourage students to communicate with their parents and assist them to keep parents informed, please realize that 18-year-olds are legally adults. We must have patient permission to share medical information with others, including with a patient’s parents, unless the situation is life-threatening.
If you are a full-time or part-time degree candidate at the University Park campus, your admission agreement with Penn State includes assigning University Health Services as your local “family physician”. In these circumstances, UHS does have access to your medical records for continuity of care purposes.
Our staff always does their best to answer questions and provide reassurance within those limits—and we work hard to facilitate good communication.
