Diabetes Month Events

Mount Nittany Health is proud to announce the following events in honor of National Diabetes Awareness Month.

You can also tune in for interviews with our diabetes experts on the radio (95.3 FM 3WZ, Tuesdays at 9:40 am and Thursdays at 3:20 pm) and television (WTAJ-TV 10, Thursdays at 4:00 pm) throughout November.

November 1

#bluelight Social Media Contest
Mount Nittany Health is sponsoring a community challenge for individuals to raise awareness of diabetes. Those who take a photo of their business or home (or a room in their business/home) that features a blue light for diabetes awareness will receive a small gift if the photo is posted on the Mount Nittany Health Facebook page (facebook.com/MountNittany) with hashtag #bluelight.

Blue Light Special - Ace Hardware (South Hills Plaza, S. Atherton St., State College)
Purchase a limited edition blue CFL lightbulb at Ace Hardware and light up your home or business blue, the color of diabetes awareness, in honor of diabetes month and/or World Diabetes Day (Nov. 14). A portion of the lightbulb sales will be donated to People Centre’D on Diabetes, a local group dedicated to improving the lives of our friends and neighbors living with or at risk for diabetes.

Healthy Aging Lecture Series: "I Used to be Able to Eat That"
Learn general rules to improve food-related decision-making. Presented by Shawnee M. Kelly, instructor and academic adviser, Department of Nutritional Sciences. Held in the Galen and Nancy Dreibelbis Auditorium at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Free and open to the public.

Diabetes Self Management Classes
A four-week series on diabetes management, the classes are taught by a certified diabetes educator and registered dietitian. Pre-registration is required.

Diabetes Support Group, featuring a special cooking demonstration
Featuring a special cooking demonstration by Jane Jantzer-Wilson at this free support group for people with diabetes and their loved ones. Held at the Centre Region Senior Center (131 S. Fraser Street #1, State College, Pa.).

November 14

6:00 pm
Diabetes Support Group, featuring “Managing Diabetes: The Next Step” by guest speaker Roger Baird
Roger Baird, a specially trained member of the A1C Champions Program, will lead the program and share why insulin is not a sign of failure, the concerns he had before starting insulin as well as common misperceptions about insulin. Held in Mount Nittany Medical Center conference rooms 2 and 3. For more information, call 814.231.7095.

All evening
Mount Nittany Medical Center Lit Blue
On this evening, the Medical Center will be lit blue in support of World Diabetes Day. Hoss’s, Bryce Jordan Center, the Centre County Courthouse and others will also be lit blue.

 

The Foundation’s 21st Annual Golf Tournament raised $150,000 for the new Cancer Center.
