Wound Management
A chronic wound is a wound that has not started to heal in 4 weeks or is not completely healed in 8 weeks. At any given time, almost six million Americans suffer from problem wounds. The staff at Mount Nittany Center for Wound Care specializes in treatments for a variety of wounds.
Specifically
- Diabetic wounds
- Ischemic wounds
- Pressure wounds
- Venous wounds
Other
- Acute trauma
- Burns
- Drug/disease induced wounds
- Postoperative wounds
- Radiation injury
It can be very frustrating and time-consuming to heal these wounds. Mount Nittany Center for Wound Care utilizes the most up-to-date approaches that have proven to be highly effective in the wound-healing process, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
What to Expect:
Wound management is designed to complement physician services. While the primary care physician will continue to treat the causes, the staff at the Center will support the physician with a focus on wound healing.
Patients will undergo a thorough diagnostic exam to identify the type of wound and any underlying problems causing the delay in its healing process. When identified, a tailored treatment plan will be initiated based on the most effective ways to heal the wound. Treatment options that may by considered include
- Debridement
- Diabetic education
- Hyperbaric oxygen therapy
- Infectious disease management
- Laboratory evaluation
- Nuclear medicine
- Pain management
- Physical therapy
- Radiology
- Vascular evaluation
