The secret to great medical care is finding the best employees—those who are skilled in medicine and dedicated to quality care. We invite you to meet some of the caring, talented and highly qualified professionals who have chosen careers at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Kathy Tambourine, RN
Registered Nurse, Maternity/Gynecology, 14 years at the Medical Center
"When I’m in the community talking to people about my job, I tell them how lucky I am,” proclaims Kathy Tambourine. Tambourine works with postpartum and gynecological surgery patients and with babies in the nursery. “I never thought I’d be so content and so happy with what I do.”
Tambourine’s responsibilities range from helping post-operative patients to caring for mothers and newborn infants. She also educates parents about how to care for their new babies. “I really enjoy educating parents. Our goal is to teach them what to expect and to make sure they feel confident about taking their little one home,” Tambourine says.
“I work with a fantastic group of talented and dedicated individuals,” she concludes. “We work on a very happy floor and we enjoy our patients. This is a very fulfilling career.”
Dani Merrill, RN
Progressive Care Unit, 1 year at the Medical Center
“The best thing about my department is the tremendous amount of teamwork we have on the unit. Everyone is a team player and willing to help someone else who is having a bad or stressful day. The staff on the unit has a light-hearted side when the unit is slow, and yet become the most professional, critical thinkers in emergencies. I think these qualities make a great work environment.
What I love about being a nurse is always learning something new, being able to teach patients about diseases that were once foreign to them, knowing that my day will go by in a blink; but most importantly, knowing that I have the potential to make a good day out of one that could have otherwise been really bad for someone in the hospital.”
Maureen Coble, RN
Women’s and Children Services, 12 years at the Medical Center
“Taking care of moms and babies is a great part of my job. Knowing that we are witnessing the start of a little life is wonderful. The patients and families are usually so grateful for all we do. We get to know the families so well after taking care of them for labor and then during the continued stay in postpartum.
The staff on the unit is like family. We work very well together—pitching in to help each other—always checking to see how the other is doing.”
Kathy Harpster, RN
Women and Children’s Services, 16 years at the Medical Center
“I love taking care of the babies and new mothers. Teaching the moms how to take care of their babies is very rewarding. It is also nice to have the versatility of caring for those women who are here for gynecological reasons. For these patients, we use different skills and approaches to patient care. We have the very good working relationships on the unit and that makes it a joy to come to work.”
