Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a specialized training program in Ultrasonic Technology or on-the-job training with a registered sonographer preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Knowledge of physician office procedures, ICD-9 and CPT coding guidelines. Knowledge of ultrasound equipment and procedures, protocols and safety hazards common to administering ultrasounds including equipment, body mechanics and patient movement. Ability to recognize normal and pathological features. Ability to speak clearly and communicate effectively and to read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions and procedures. Ability to identify and troubleshoot equipment problems and perform simple adjustments. Skill in the production and communication of sonograms.
Primary Duties
Perform ultrasound procedures to assist in the diagnosis of medical conditions. Obtain essential information from patients, medical records and previous scans for correlation. Perform ultrasound procedures as prescribed by a physician including positioning patient, selecting the appropriate scan images to be recorded and obtaining diaognostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient. Prepare the diagnostic ultrasound imagery report, save the hard image and a copy of the report in the patient’s chart and submit the report to the appropriate physician. Assist physicians with ultrasound guided procedures such as amniocentesis and saline infusion sonograms. Ensure all procedures are conducted following established sterilization techniques and procedures. Maintain and order ultrasound supplies as necessary. Document patient information, test and examination results and care provided in the patient’s paper or electronic health record. Using the Electronic Health Record, document and bill for services rendered.
Schedule
This position is PRN or "as needed" basis. There are no guaranteed number of hours per week.
