Recent product recalls

Here are recent product recalls announced by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. For the most up-to-date recall information, please visit cpsc.gov and click on the Recalls tab from the homepage.

 

Name of product: Coleman® Runestone Style Children’s Shoes

Hazard: The metal rivets surrounding the holes where the shoestring is secured on the shoes can have sharp edges, posing a laceration hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received one report of an adult who scratched or cut his finger. No medical attention was required.

Description: The Runestone children’s shoes are black with gray mesh fabric panels on the side of the shoe with a green Coleman logo name and lantern graphic on the tongue. The black shoestrings on the shoes are threaded through green fabric tabs on the top of the shoe. A label located on the inside of the tongue of the shoes identifies the style as Runestone.

Sold at: Big 5 Sporting Goods retail stores nationally from January 2013 through December 2013 for about $39

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled shoes and return them to a Big 5 Sporting Goods store for a full refund or contact Eastman Footwear for instructions on returning the shoes for a refund.

Name of product: U.S. Polo Assn. girls’ jackets

Hazard: The jackets have a band of material at the neck that can pose a strangulation hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported

Description: This recall involves U.S. Polo Assn. girls’ jackets. The jackets have the name U.S. Polo Assn. with the year 1890 and crossed polo mallets on the jacket’s upper right exterior and a silhouette of two polo players and the initials USPA on the jacket’s upper left exterior. The jackets come in the colors fuchsia, green and cream in girls’ sizes 4-16. The name Q4 Designs LLC and style numbers can be found on the white tracking label tag sewn into the inside of the jacket near the waist band. Recalled style numbers include: U274-200 for sizes 4-6 and U274-300 for sizes 7-16.

Sold at: Burlington Coat Factory, Kids Stop and Cookie’s Department Stores from August 2013 to October 2013 for about $15.

Remedy: Consumers should remove or cut the band to eliminate the hazard, or contact Q4 Designs to obtain a full refund.

Name of product: Go Gaga Squeeze & Teethe Coco the Monkey

Hazard: The tail of the monkey can pose a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received seven reports of infants choking or gagging on the monkey’s tail. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves the Go Gaga Squeeze & Teethe Coco the Monkey teething toys. This squeaking toy is made of soft orange rubber and is shaped like a monkey. The toy measures 4.5 inches tall by 5 inches long and is intended for ages newborn and up. “Infantino” is marked on the back toward the rear, and model number 206-647 is marked on the inside of the rear left leg.

Sold exclusively at: Target stores nationwide and online from December 2012 through January 2014 for about $13.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled products away from infants and contact Infantino to receive a free replacement toy.

Name of product: Vera Bradley Bear Ring Rattles and Bunny Stuffed Toys

Hazard: The pom-pom tail can detach from the body of the bear rattle and the bunny, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: Vera Bradley has received two reports that the pom-pom tail detached from the product. No injuries have been reported.

Description: This recall involves all Vera Bradley Bear Ring Rattles and Bunny stuffed animal toys.  The products are made of cotton and fleece. The bear ring rattle has a white teddy bear head, arms attached to an O-shaped body with a green, blue, brown and pink crisscross pattern design rattle. The bear ring rattle measures about 4.25 inches in diameter. The bunny is 10 inches tall from the top of its head to the bottom of its foot and was sold in three printed patterns. The “Bunny in Lilli Bell” has green vines with pink and orange flowers on the body, limbs and the back of the ears. The “Bunny in Lola” has a crisscross geometric pattern on the arms, legs and ears of the white-headed bunny with a floral print body. The “Bunny in Tutti Frutti” has a green with a pink and yellow floral-printed pattern fabric covering the whole body. Each of the recalled rattles and bunnies have a white pom-pom tail on the back of the item. The name Vera Bradley is marked on a tag attached to each item, along with the following serial numbers: 007590013357145, 0000630012803140, 0000630012803142 and 007590013234135.

Sold at: Vera Bradley retail stores, department stores, and specialty gift shops and online at verabradley.com and other online stores from September 2012 to January 2014 for between $12 and $19.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take these recalled products away from young children and return them to Vera Bradley for a full refund.

Name of product: Three styles of plush Grumpy Cat stuffed animal toys

Hazard: The stuffed animals’ eyes can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.

Incidents/Injuries: The firm has received six reports of the eyes detaching from the Grumpy Cat toys. No injuries have been reported.   

Description This recall involves three styles of plush Grumpy Cat stuffed animal toys by Ganz. They include an 8-inch Grumpy Cat in laying position, a 5-inch-long, sitting Grumpy Cat and a 4-inch Grumpy Cat key clip. The toys are multi-colored in white with dark brown, light brown and gray fur material. Grumpy Cat toys have blue crystal eyes with the eyelids half-closed, a down-turned mouth and white whiskers. This toy is labeled for ages 3 and older. The Grumpy Cat key chain has a black, plastic key clip at the top of the cat’s head. The recalled toys have batch numbers 86754 or 224861 and model numbers printed on the sewn-in label located near the tail of the cat.

The recalled toy’s model and batch numbers are: Grumpy Cat laying – Model number HGC12974, batches 86754 and 224861. Grumpy Cat sitting – Model number HGC12982, batches 86754 and 224861. Grumpy Cat Key Clip – Model number HGC12983, batches 86754 and 224861.

Sold at: Department stores; gift, drug, toy, baby product, grocery and home decorating stores; hospital and museum gift shops nationwide and various websites from April 2013 through December 2013 for about $10. Gift, drug and toy stores including hospitals, museums and gift shops nationwide from December 2013 through January 2014 for about $8 to $10.

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled toys away from children and contact Ganz for a free replacement Grumpy Cat product of equivalent value or a full refund.

Name of product: Wooden, flipping acrobat toys

Hazard: The paint on the wooden, flipping acrobat toys contains excessive levels of lead, which is prohibited under federal law.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported

Description: The recalled flipping acrobat toys are made of painted wood and are 8.5 inches tall. The toys consist of two rectangular wooden sticks connected by a wood crosspiece near one end and a coyote, super hero, woodpecker or yellow bird wooden cartoon character suspended by nylon string at the other end.

Sold at: Independent children’s stores and gift shops nationwide from September 2008 through May 2013 for about $6.

Manufactured in: Peru

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled flipping acrobat toys away from children and return them to Minga Fair Trade Imports for a full refund or credit towards a replacement product.

Name of product: Bedz King Bunk Beds with Side Ladder

Hazard: A protruding corner post on the bunk beds exceeds the 5mm allowed by industry standard, posing an entrapment hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported

Description: This recall involves Bedz King bunk beds with a side ladder. The beds were sold in twin over twin, twin over full and full over full combinations and in four colors; white, espresso, honey and cappuccino. Affected models include BK 150SL, BK 151SL, BK 950SL, BK 951SL and BK 975SL. Model information and “Bedz King” are printed on labels attached to the top headboard.  

Sold exclusively at: BunkBedKing.com from July 2011 to October 2013 for between $350 and $750.

Manufactured in: Brazil

Remedy: Consumers should immediately check to see if they have the recalled bunk bed and contact Bedz King for a free repair kit and to confirm a physical address for delivery of the kit. Bedz King is contacting known consumers directly by email.
