Join the Pink Zone’s fight against breast cancer

The Pink Zone game is a day of celebrating breast cancer survivorship, the advancement of cancer care and steps towards the cure of breast cancer.

Community members can join the celebration by attending the Penn State Lady Lions’ eighth annual Pink Zone basketball game on Sunday, February 16, 2014, 1:00 pm, at the Bryce Jordan Center. The Pennsylvania Pink Zone and the Penn State Lady Lion’s Basketball team have joined together to fight breast cancer by using fundraising efforts to support the treatment, research, education and outreach needed to combat breast cancer.

In addition, Mount Nittany Health is hosting its annual Pink Out Day on Monday, February 3, where community members can meet Lady Lions Basketball head coach Coquese Washington and other coaches and team representatives for a special pep rally in honor of the Pink Zone game. Doors open at 11:30, and the pep rally starts at noon in Mount Nittany Medical Center’s Galen and Nancy Dreibelbis Auditorium.

Having access to the best cancer care close-to-home is vital to the treatment process. In a powerful statement about the importance of local cancer care, the Pennsylvania Pink Zone has named Mount Nittany Medical Center as its lead beneficiary for the fifth year in a row. Mount Nittany Medical Center has been a partner since the Pink Zone’s first year, and provides comprehensive cancer care at the state-of-the-art Lance and Ellen Shaner Cancer Pavilion. The Pink Zone's generous gift has allowed Mount Nittany Medical Center to hire a breast health navigator. This role will work to remove any barriers to care that people may face as they deal with the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

The Pink Zone is also a year-round effort to raise funds for those engaged in the fight against breast cancer. This year, with your help, we aim to break the million dollar mark of monies distributed to help in the cause. In addition to Mount Nittany Medical Center, other recipients include Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, PA Breast Cancer Coalition, Kay Yow Cancer Fund, J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital and Geisinger-Lewistown Hospital.

Join Mount Nittany Medical Center in supporting the Pennsylvania Pink Zone. Call our Foundation office at 814.234.6777 to purchase tickets to the game. You can also stop by our gift shop and pick up your Pink Zone T-shirt the next time you visit Mount Nittany Medical Center. This year’s official Pink Zone T-shirt can also be purchased at all Lady Lion Basketball home games, at all Penn State Bookstore locations, or at the Penn State University Park Official Bookstore's website. A portion of each Pink Zone ticket and T-shirt sale will go toward fundraising efforts. Looking for a truly easy way to contribute to the cause? Text PSU PINK to 50555 to donate $10 to fundraising efforts. We look forward to seeing you cheering on the Lady Lions on February 16.
