I am an adult and my skin continues to break out. What can I do?

Unfortunately, breakouts can occur at any age, but adult acne can be especially frustrating. You can manage adult acne problems by implementing a daily skin-care regimen that incorporates the following steps:

  • Wash your face twice a day with a cleanser that is specifically formulated for your skin type - oily, dry, normal or sensitive.
  • Each time you wash your face, follow up with a moisturizer to keep skin hydrated and balanced. As with your facial cleanser, make sure the product is right for your skin type.
  • Apply product containing SPF daily to protect your skin from exposure to harmful UV rays. You can even find a moisturizer with SPF.
  • Exfoliate twice a week with a product containing glycolic or lactic acids to remove dead skin cells. This will work to gently remove excess oil, debris and skin cells from your pores for a smoother, brighter complexion.

When a breakout occurs, apply a spot treatment containing benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid to kill bacteria and help dry up the acne.
