Features of the Lance and Ellen Shaner Cancer Pavilion

The Lance and Ellen Shaner Cancer Pavilion at Mount Nittany Medical Center will provide an environment of healing and care for patients with cancer. Patients and their families will have access to a best-practice driven, multidisciplinary team of nurses, social workers, dietitians, patient and nurse navigators, therapists, chaplains, pharmacists and rehabilitation specialists, all led by oncologists.

The Cancer Pavilion will include:

  • Dedicated space for the current intensity modulated linear accelerator - technology designed to allow physicians and physicists the ability to program delivery of exact forms of radiation up to eight times faster than other delivery systems, pinpointing radiation to the tumor and preserving healthy tissue.
  • Penn State Lady Lion Basketball Cancer Resource Center: library and resources for patients supported by funding from The Pennsylvania State University Lady Lion's Pink Zone games.
  • Clinical research space for the Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute at Mount Nittany Health, bringing cutting edge clinical research and experimental new therapies to the Centre County region since 2000. The goal of PSHCI is to provide access to quality cancer care, including outreach, education, treatment and prevention activities to cancer patients in Central Pennsylvania.
  • Patient-focused exam rooms, chemotherapy suites and consultation areas for multidisciplinary teams essential to the patient's care: dietitians, patient and nurse navigators, social workers, occupational and physical rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, chaplain, and physician and clinical specialists.
  • Consultation areas for support services such as pharmacy and lab work.
  • Disease-specific consultation, meeting and treatment areas.
  • Meeting and support group spaces.
  • Amenities to enhance patient and visitor comfort, like natural lighting and green areas.
  • A dedicated entrance for patients with cancer and their families.
