20th Anniversary Mount Nittany Medical Center Golf Classic slated for August 21

The Mount Nittany Medical Center Golf Classic committee is celebrating its 20th anniversary golf tournament this year. The tournament is scheduled for Saturday, August 21, at the Penn State Golf Courses.

"We're excited to be celebrating the Golf Classic's 20th year as a major fund raising event for The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center, " said Golf Classic co-chair Fred Carlin, OD. "Funds raised will go towards the $500,000 goal established in 2008 to support the Cancer Program at the Medical Center. Last year the event raised $108,000 from the generous support of our sponsors and golfers,"

The event traditionally hosts about 220 golfers and 100 volunteers. The highlight of the tournament is the $10,000 cash or car/truck giveaway. One lucky golfer will win their choice of $10,000 in cash or a brand new car or truck. Last year’s winner, Aaron Bleznak, MD, chose the cash option and generously gave $5,000 back to The Foundation.

The 2010 Golf Classic committee includes Fred Carlin, OD, and John Cox, MD, as co-chair persons and members: Davies Bahr, Brian Bowser, Ralph Brower, Linette Courtney, John Dixon, Steve Eskey, Jerry Fisher, Don Hastings, Joe Hughes, Bob Langton, Jack Purnell, MD, Cathy "Kate" Reiter, Rob Schmidt, Joe and Judy Shulman, Nancy Silvis, Matt Stever, Gene Stocker, Jr., and Paul Tomczuk. Lead sponsor for this year’s event is Centre Medical and Surgical Associates, PC, as the Gift Sponsor; C.A. Curtze, Awards Dinner Sponsor; and USI Southwest, tent sponsor. Platinum Sponsors include Balfurd; Burt, Hill; Citizen's Bank and Nittany Eye Associates. Many other sponsors contribute to this event, and sponsorship and individual golfer opportunities are still available.

Co-chair John Cox, MD, reminds golfers and sponsors that they can find more information about this year's event by visiting The Foundation website at: foundation.mountnittany.org/events/golf-classic, or by calling The Foundation office at 814.234.6777.

The Foundation’s 21st Annual Golf Tournament raised $150,000 for the new Cancer Center.
