New emergency department facility

To accommodate and plan for a growing region, Mount Nittany Medical Center recently completed a newly renovated and expanded emergency department (ED) facility. In order to ensure uninterrupted ED patient care, the project was divided into two phases. Phase one of the project, which was completed in June 2012, added a new, 26,000 square-foot ED facility. An additional facility of approximately 12,000 square feet was also added for a new parademic garage as well as office space for information technology services. At the same time, a new main entrance to the Medical Center with expanding patient/visitor parking was completed.

Features of the new ED facility include:

  • 56,000 square feet of new and renovated space
  • Private patient rooms with private restrooms
  • Comfortable, large waiting and sub-waiting rooms
  • Pod design features more flexible and efficient care with closer proximity to patients/resources
  • 48 beds, with ability to expand to 62 beds
  • Dedicated sexual assault nurse examiner room
  • Two state-of-the-art trauma bays
  • Rooftop helipad with elevator access to emergency department
  • Austin’s Playroom, a safe and fun area for children to play while families wait
  • Specially designed behavioral health rooms with security features for safety of patients/staff
  • New imaging suite for emergency department and Mount Nittany Medical Center outpatient and inpatient needs

The Foundation’s 21st Annual Golf Tournament raised $150,000 for the new Cancer Center.
